The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra
and Chorale along with the
Illinois College Concert Choir

"Choral Gems":  March 8th, 2008

The concert will feature music for chorus and orchestra, with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorale and the Illinois College Concert Choir joining the Orchestra, and will also feature the Grand Prize Winner of the 2008 Talent Among Us Competition, bass-baritone Joel Tinsley.

The program:

Felix Mendelssohn:  The Hebrides Overture ("Fingal's Cave")

Randall Thompson:  Frostiana (7 pieces to texts by Robert Frost)
     The Road Not Taken
     The Pasture
     Come In
     The Telephone
     A Girl's Garden
     Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
     Choose Something Like a Star
          (performed by the Chorale and Concert Choir with the Orchestra)

Intermission

Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky:  Suite No. 4 for Orchestra  ("Mozartiana")

Felix Mendelssohn:  "It is Enough", from "Elijah"
     with Joel Tinsley, bass-baritone

Two anthems performed by the Chorale and Concert Choir with the Orchestra:
Martin Shaw:  With a Voice of Singing
Mack Wilberg:  Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
